Busy Busy but back in Action!

Hi all,

I'll post a little more this afternoon! I feel so bad for neglecting my blog but with the Ashcroft Wedding/ Savannah's Surprise Birthday Visitor/ Houseguests and LIFE IN GENERAL, I've been a busy bee!!!

I'm working on a new COUPONING PROJECT for the Pretty Prairie Food Bank! It will be a Coupon Donation project! Basically, I've gotten the blessing from the City and the Food Bank to collect unwanted Coupon inserts to get FREE items for the PP Food Bank!! It's a win-win situation since the inserts are kept out of the landfill and the FREE FOOD will be used by the Food Bank!!!! :)

More details to come, I gotta go and post the flyers and leave the drop boxes off at the businesses that obliged to help out!

Some of my Favorite Places to Coupon Shop

Alrighty kids, here is today's installment of Couponing 101. I will be listing a few of my favorite places that I love to coupon shop at.
This will mainly pertain to local Kansas folks but I will have a few hints and tips of national chains so please read on Non-Kansas fans! :)

1.HOMELAND Grocery Store in Haysville, KS:

I know you are thinking, WHAT, you drive all the way to Haysville to shop??? Yes, yes I do, once a week at least since I'm in Wichita anyway. In all honesty, HOMELAND is the best place to coupon shop. WHY do you ask??? They do SUPER DOUBLE COUPONS everyday, up to $1.00!! Soooo, if you have a coupon for $1 off...they double it to $2.00!!!! This is how I get a TON of free or really cheap items! They send me their ad in the snail mail every Saturday too...so I can plan my trips out for the sale that starts on Wednesday.
Here are a few pointers:

*You must have a Homeland Shoppers Card to get super doubles. It's free, just go to the customer service booth and sign up.

*If a coupon say DO NOT DOUBLE (DND), most of the time they wont double it, which is a bummer. Sometimes there are better sales at Dillons for the lower cents off DND's so I'd save them for Dillon, which will double coupons that say DND.

*Homeland will only double 5-like coupons per transaction.... I know this is very confusing to explain but it's really easy to make sense! You can have as many coupons you want in a transaction but they will only super double 5 each of your like ones... for example, say I wanted to buy 7 bbq sauces and had 7- $1.00 off coupons for them. They will double the 1st 5 coupons I have to $2 each, and then the last 2 for the bbq sauce they will redeem at face value. I always do 2 or more transactions if I have more than 5 coupons to use for a good deal.

*Sign up at www.homelandstores.com to receive their weekly flyer in the mail. They also update their sales flyer ads online at 12:00AM on Wednesday morning, if you are up that late!

*Scan the ads to make the most of your shopping trip! There are aweome people such as my friend Ashlea, who do coupon matchups weekly to help you get the most for your money! Visit her blog at http://dealdetectingdiva.blogspot.com and tell her I sent ya :) Ashlea, I appreciate your hard work every Monday for Wednesday Homeland Matchups!

*Sometimes, when you purchase the right combo of items, you may receive a CATALINA coupon which spits out at the register for use at your next trip..it's usually a few dollars off your order. Be sure to check out Ashlea's page, as sometimes she'll list Catalina deals as well. The Catalina machine occassionally will give you manufacture coupons as well, it's pretty random so you never know when you'll get one!

*If you have an entertainment 2010 book, there is 1 Homeland STORE coupon still valid for $5 off a $50 purchase. If your total is over $50 before coupons, give that coupon to them before your manufacturers coupons to reap that reward!

2. Dillons:

Yes, beleive it or not Dillons does have some pretty awesome deals and they have a good double coupon policy!
Here are a few pointers:
*You must have a Dillons Plus Card to receive double coupons. You can sign up for one at the Customer Service Booth at your local store. When you get home, register your card at www.dillons.com to load e-coupons onto your card!

*Dillons will double coupons up to $0.50. Coupons worth more than $0.50 are "doubled" up to a $1.00.... I know that's confusing but here are some examples. You have a 55 cent off coupon, they will give you an additional $0.45 off to make it $1.00. So in essence, think of it this way, if it's over $0.50, consider it a $1.00 off coupon!

*Dillons will pay you $0.05 for every reusable bag that you bring in to sack your groceries with. It may not sound like a lot, but it adds up over time and you are helping the environment at the same time.

*"Stack" your Dillons e-coupons (available at www.dillons.com , www.shortcuts.com , www.cellfire.com and www.pgesaver.com) with your paper coupons for more savings. Your e-coupons will not double but your paper ones will!

*Dillons updates their ad every Wednesday morning at 12:00am for you night owls! Be sure to scan their ad and make the most of your trip. A good place for weekly coupon matchups is http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/dillons

3. Target and Super Target:

Target is a wonderful place to shop at to "stack" manufacters coupons along with store coupons for the most BANG for your buck!
Here are a few pointers:
*Go to www.target.com and print out their coupons for items you use. Be sure to remember that you may stack both a target store coupon along with a manufacters coupon!

*Target Sales run from Sunday through Saturday

*Target often has "Receive a $5 gift card with the purchase of XXXXXXX". It's in their weekly ads and of course at www.totallytarget.com there are great saving scenarios and coupon match up ideas!

*Be sure to bring your reusable bags to Target as well, as they give you $0.05 for every bag you bring in.

*FYI, the target store coupons state one like coupon per transaction but lately, Ive been able to use several of the target store coupons of the same like item in one transaction with out problems. I just wanted you to know YMMV... aka Your Milage may Vary, at your store so dont freak out if you have to break your transactions down to make your savings count...lately I haven't had to!

4. Walgreens:

Walgreens usually have some really good sales weekly and you can even earn register rewards, which you can use on your next shopping trip for money off pretty much anything in the store!! :)

*Check out www.iheartwags.com for awesome scenarios and coupon matchups. They usually have several future weeks of ads with matchups done already and links to where you can print off coupons already listed...it makes shopping at Walgreens a BREEZE!!!

*Walgreens lets you stack store coupons WITH manufacturers coupons for more bang for your buck! They usually have a number of store coupons in their weekly ad that comes out on Sunday. Walgreens ads are good Sunday thru Saturday.

*Register Rewards are coupons that spit out of the register that you earn for buying a certain product. For example, Buy 2 Tide detergents at $5.00 each and receive $5.00 back in register rewards. I buy 2 Tides at $5.00 each... use 2 Tide coupons worth $2.00 off each box...That makes my total $6.00. Then the register spits out a $5.00 RR (Register Reward) back! I can use that register reward for whatever I choose on my next visit. But, FYI, if I want another $5.00 reward on more Tide, I wont use my $5.00 RR on that transaction because I wont receive another one back...the computer is smart like that!

*Register Rewards expire 2 weeks after you receive them so be sure to use em up!

5. Checkers and Leekers in Wichita and Valley Center, KS:

I am not a huge fan of these stores but occasionally you can find good deals. They are VERY anal about Internet Printable coupons and will NOT double them.
Here's how they work:

*Monthy, Checkers/Leekers has SUPER double coupons for 1 week. They will double coupons up to $1.00 so you can receive $2.00 off.

*On regular sale weeks, they double coupons up to $0.50...after that, it's at face value...blah!

*You can only have 3 like coupons that double per transaction, sorta like Homeland as stated above.

*Checkers/Leekers WILL NOT DOUBLE INTERNET PRINTABLES...well, pooh on them :)

*You must have a Checkers/Leekers card to receive doubles.

6.K-Mart:

I used to be a big K-Mart shopper when I lived in the city but I rarely go there anymore. They take manufacture coupons daily, but sometimes can be weary about internet printables. I would be sure to ask the customer service people when you enter the store.

*K-Mart occasionally has super double coupons. I noticed they have dramatically changed their policy about them! Sometimes they are double up to $2.00 (which is nice to have $4 off !!!) but lately it's been up to $1.00...and I noticed sometimes it's only for a specific department (like health and beauty coupons only, etc)

*K-Mart will only double up to 5 coupons daily...what a crock!

*You must have a Rewards Your Way card to receive doubles.

Couponing at Target

Ahhhh, one of my favorite stores to coupon at is Target. Not only is the selection good, customer service great, store is clean, they have awesome Target STORE COUPONS which you can STACK with a manufacturers coupon!!!!

Stacking is using a store coupon along with a manufacturers coupon, it's totally legal and you can save some major money when you use both coupons!

You can go to www.target.com and scroll down to thebottom. Under the TARGET STORES title below on the left side you will see a link to COUPONS. From there, you can print out some of their store and manufacturers coupon!

Of course with their store coupons, you can only use them at Target and Super Target, but if you print some of their manufacturers coupons from the target coupon link, you can use those at other stores!!!

A lot of times, Target will have free gift card offers when you make a purchase of a certain item on sale! That is another way to save and sometimes is even a MONEY MAKER (aka MM if you see that on one of my entries sometime!)

A good Target Savings Blog is at http://www.totallytarget.com/ It has GREAT savings scenarios,free with purchase gift card info, rebate info, preview ofsalesand tips GALORE!!! Be sure to bookmark that bad boy in your favorites!

Another easy way to save at Target is to use your reusable bags there. They give you $0.05 for each reusable bag you use. Now I know that doesn't sound like much but every little bit helps and it also eliminates those pesky plastic bags that seem to make babies wherever you store them at!!!

Adding E-Coupons to your Dillons Card

Ok, young couponing grasshopper,

Due to popular demand....muwahahaha, ok I sound ike a pompous foolio there, but since I've had several friends say "HOW IN THE HELL do you do all this couponing crap??" I figured I would send out little hints via facebook, and my blog as well which is in some SERIOUS need of updating, which is what I'm doing right now!!!

Anyway, I will be refering to DILLONS in this note, which is of course a Kroger store. For my friends who live outside of Kansas, you may want to go www.kroger.com and see if one of your grocery stores is a Kroger affiliate.

Ok, 1st of all, go www.dillons.com and if you haven't done so already, register your Dillons Plus Card. After doing so, you can go to the IN STORE tab at the top right corner, then click on coupons. From there, you will click on ALL NEW DIGITAL COUPONS. Then you can add digital (or e-coupons) to your Dillons Card that will come off AUTOMATICALLY on when you go to the register to purchase your goods!!!

Now, I know you are saying, wow, that doesn't sound like a lot of savings there...Ahhhh Grasshopper, patience is a virtue! The best part about e-coupons is that you can STACK THEM WITH A PAPER MANUFACTURERS COUPON!!!!! "Whaaaaa?" you say??? Yes, not only will the e-coupon come off on your total, you can also use a paper MC (manufacturers coupon) as well!! And best of all, Dillons doubles paper coupons so your savings will be MORE!

Here's an example in case you are uber confused at the moment:

I buy1 box of Cocoa puffs for $1.99. I have a 0.55 off cocoa puffs e-coupon attached to my Dillons card that I added from the website. That makes it now $1.44....then of course I have a PAPER $0.55 off Cocoa Puffs coupon as well, that will take an additional $1.00 off (since the coupon is over $0.50 cents, Dillons will go ahead and "double" it to $1... 0.55+0.45 doubled). Therefore the box of Delicious Cocoa Puffs will cost me a whopping $0.44!!!!!

As for paper coupons, Dillons doubles theirs as follows:

Up to $0.50 it will double ( ex. $0.25 off will double to $0.50,$0.35 will double to $0.70, $0.50 will double to $1.00 and so on)

If it's over $0.50 off, they will match the savings up to $1.00 (ex. $0.55, they'll give you an additional $0.45 to make it a $1, $0.65 off, they'll give you $0.35 to make i $1.00 and so on.

E-coupons are good for 1 use only. So with my cocoa puff example, unless I was able to add another one to my card from either Dillons.com or one of the sites I am getting ready to list below, Im out of luck if I want to save like that again on another transaction.

So, I went to Wal-Mart today to check out a few freebie deals I got from Ashlea @ Deal Detecting Diva and I scored on the following:

10 FREE Blue Bunny single novelty packages (BIG ice cream sandwiches!)
They were $1.00 each
I had 10- mc's from the HOMELAND spring coupon flyer for $1.00 off any Blue Bunny Novelties (no quanity or size listed!!!)

5 FREE packages of Schick Razors 10ct+ 2 free bonus!!!! That's a total of 60 Razors FREE and they were a money maker!

They were $1.97 each. I used the 3 of the SS 3/21 $3.00 of ANY SCHICK disposable razors (made 1.03 with each of those coupons!) and 2 internet printables available at :

Hi y'all!! Just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about my bloggy woggy! Some crazy house stuff blew up in my face but I am still saving money left and right! Trying not to stock pile toooo much since I'll have to just pack it up and wait to move...AGAIN!!! I guess an explanation is due!

We took possession of the house we thought we were going to buy in Milton, KS. It is a modular home on a permament basement foundation so the FHA and underwriters were having issues with financing it. After the 3rd rejection from an underwriter, hubby and I decided it was time to look elsewhere and find a home that was easier to finance.

With that said, we made an offer on a home in Pretty Prairie, KS and they counter offered...the deal was still great, so we are pending contract on a new home!!! It has a finished basement with LOTS o' storage for my coupon finds!!!! In the basement bathroom there is a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE pantry closet for all of my FREE and cheap HBA finds! In the laundry room there is alot of counter space, cabinet space and drawers for all my cleaners and laundry goods! And I have STORAGE GALORE in the new kitchen! We also have lots of built-ins and linen closets on the main level for all sorts of HBA finds too!!! I am so thrilled!!!

I will keep you all posted with whats going on and when I get some good buys here in the next few weeks I'll let you know!

I have a good Lysol deal to share with you but I must tell you about my WAGS experience today so here goes!!!

Soooo I went to Walgreens today (actually 2 different ones) and for the first time I had to deal with a butthole cashier who didn't know what she was talking about but I did call the manager and had a little pow-wow with him and we both decided she was wrong and she needed to be retrained LOL! When I made my purchase, I bought the AquaFresh that is buy it for $3 and get back $3.00 in register rewards. I was going to use a manufactures coupon for $1.00 that paticular kind of Aquafresh and this cashier proceeded to tell me that since I was getting the AquaFresh free she couldn't redeem the coupon. I proceeded to tell her ass, no you are wrong because I am receiving a register reward at the end of the transaction and I am paying for the toothpaste up front therefore I can use the coupon and her ass wouldn't budge. Sooo, I said ok, I have had no problems at other Wags but go ahead and take that off. When I got to the car I called the manager and gave him a calm but annoyed earfull :) I hope she gets the retraining she needs!

A: Well, I grew up in a household with a single mom who never let us feel like we didn't have much money. After my Dad died, my Mom was laid off from her job and although I was only 6, I am sure times were pretty tough. Mom always had the best clothes for us, a bunch of food, etc and I don't think she was a coupon queen but her moulding us to appreciate the value of money has been engraved into our heads.
Fast forward 10 yrs from when I was 6 and it brings you to my 2nd job in my life...Dillons Food Market at Kellogg and Rock (which has been gone forever it seems like!). I was SO intrigued by watching the ladies come in with 2 carts of grocerys and a fistfull of coupons and they saved ALOT!!!! I mean tons of money. I was one of those weird cashiers who actually LOVED coupon shoppers and it facinated me. I think that fued my obsession! At that Dillons I met the guy I thought I was gonna spend the rest of my life with (HA! Stupid teenage thinking) and we went on to have a child and got married (and divorced a year and a half later!) but since I had my own family, I became a coupon PRINCESS....now I am the queen LOL!

Q: What the heck are you gonna do with all of this QUANTITY of food and cleaners, health and beauty stuff, etc? Do you really need all of this stuff?
A: Good question! I got a great answer too! I have a few actually... first of all, we're getting ready to move to the country and the town (if you wanna call it that!) that we are moving to has NO grocery stores whatsoever! I figured it be nice to have a little stockpile of ingredients available on hand. I also will have a room in the basement specifically for my stock :)
I also have tons of friends and family...nothing tickles their fancy more than when I share my bounty with them (and Im not talking bounty paper towels LOL!) I always like to share my freebies with them and I think they enjoy it too!!!
And the rest, I always have food and tolietries for food drives and stuff....my kids' school loves the stuff we bring! Hey, if I can get it for free and help a family out in need...more power to the queen right? :)

Q: Where the heck do you get all these coupons at woman???
A: I ALWAYS get at least 2-3 papers every Sunday my self and my friends and familywill give me their inserts as well. Be sure to start getting the Sunday paper. I adore my friends and family who help me out! THEY ARE WONDERFUL!!!! I also check online for printables and am sure to keep an eye out at the stores for tearpad coupons, peelies, etc. I also am a fan of checking out websites of my favorite brands and signing up for their mailing list...they will send you coupons and samples sometimes too!

Q: How do you keep all this stuff organized????
A: Here's my coupon box...yes, Im serious!!!

I ALWAYS get at least 2-3 papers every Sunday my self and my friends will give me their inserts as well. Be sure to start getting the Sunday paper. I organize my coupons in a plastic shoebox with catagory dividers (i.e. Produce, Dairy, Snack Aisle, Meal Aisle, Baking Aisle, Cereal and Dressings Aisle, Frozen, Health and Beauty, Cleaning Aisle, Meat, Deli and Bakery Dept, and Misc coupons). I then file coupons in SUBCATGORIES using envelopes. Like For dairy I may have a file for refridgerated doughs, butter, milk and creamer, cheese, etc. I started a new system of cutting 2-3 of each my inserts and filing the rest in a folder chronologically. I cut all my coupons on Sunday and file them as soon as I cut them. It may be overwhelming at first but you'll get faster with it. I watch the ads on Wednesday for grocery sales and match my coupons up for the best deals to get at the stores. You might want to check out the different stores in your area and get familiar with their coupon policies.

Q:What stores do you shop at?
A: My favorite couponing store is HOMELAND in Haysville, KS. They double their coupons up to a $1.00! Soooo if you have a $1.00 off coupon, they take $2.00 off your order! The only stinky thing is they only let you have 5 like coupons per order...it's hard to explain sorta... For example you get a buttload of groceries, you can have 5 of each item and they will double 5 of those coupons. If you got 6 of the same item and had 6 coupons for each of them, they'd double 5 of them and give you face value of the coupon for the 6th item. Back in the day, Homeland used to double up to $2.00 so that was nice getting up to $4.00 off an item!

I also shop at Dillons (I love them and can get great deals!!!). They will double coupons up to 50 cents but say if it's $0.55, they will give you $0.45 more cents off to make it $1.00 off. I am so glad they do that stilll! I miss their super double coupons where they'd double up to $1.00 like Homeland does everyday!

Checkers and Leekers is another place and I love it when they have Super Double coupons once a month! I will let you know when they do.

Oh yeah, and 2 pkgs of Hubba Bubba ($1.19 each...no coupon LOL!) for my girls...since my total due was NEGATIVE $1.78!!!!

By the way did I mention all of the above was only $0.02??? LOL!!!

I LOVE Homeland's UP TO $1.00 double coupon policy! I miss their up to $2.00 off policy they had for a few months about 3 years ago here in Wichita!! My only complaint is that our stores closed here in Wichita and I have to drive a few more miles south to Haysville, KS but it's WELL worth the trip!!!
